Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer, Virtualization and Storage              

Department: IT                        

Job Summary 

The Senior Systems Engineer for Virtualization and Storage will be part of a team responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining a highly available VMware solution supporting real-time business critical applications.  Work will focus on meeting end user needs by ensuring system uptime and performance.  This person will create and maintain system documentation, including network diagrams, runbooks, automation procedures and Disaster Recovery procedures.  The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology, be an excellent problem solver and act as a mentor to other administrators.  This person will work closely with network, voice and server administrators, and should have a thorough understanding of IP networking, iSCSI protocol, advanced VMware administration tasks, drive geometry and storage redundancy models.  This candidate must be able to be productive in a fast paced environment and work with minimal supervision.

Essential Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities

Evaluate and implement new virtualization and storage technologies solving complex business requirements.

Deploy and maintain a highly available virtualization platform and shared storage environment.

Plan, implement and support configuration changes and/or updates within the Quantum Health change control process, implementing service-impacting changes during off-hour maintenance windows.

10%

Develop and adhere to standard operating procedures that are based on industry best practice.

10%

Proactively monitor the virtualization and storage related devices.

10%

Act as an escalation point for issues reported to the service desk, resolving virtualization storage issues in a timely manner.

10%

Create and maintain virtualization and storage environment documentation

10%

Plan and execute disaster recovery exercises.

10%

Establish and manage vendor relationships, including licensing and support agreements.

10%

Participate in a 24×7 on-call support rotation for production issues.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Industry certifications:
    • CompTIA A+ or Network+ preferred
    • Microsoft MCSA or higher: Windows Server 2008+ preferred
    • VMware VCP preferred
    • Cisco CCNA preferred
  • Ability to plan, design, implement and support computing and storage solutions
  • Ability to follow a change management process
  • Ability to solve difficult and complex problems
  • Understand vendor support structures and protocols
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • A thorough understanding of IP networking and iSCSI protocols
  • 8+ years implementing and managing server hardware (Dell, Cisco UCS)
  • 10+ years installing and administering Windows Server
  • 8+ years installing and administering vSphere
  • 5+ years using and maintaining VMware SRM
  • 5+ years managing system monitoring and alerting
  • 5+ years managing server backups, backup as a service experience preferred
  • 5+ years creating and maintaining management scripts (PowerShell, VBS)
  • 5+ years administering shared storage
  • Experience with Office365 and Azure preferred
  • Experience managing SQL Server infrastructure preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while being self-motivated and independent
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and the ability to be a technical mentor to others
  • Experience working in an Agile environment preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Information Systems preferred (or equivalent experience)
